The D&O Diary was on assignment this past week in New York City for the Professional Underwriting Liability Society (PLUS)’s annual D&O Symposium, held at the Marriott Marquis in Times Square. It was great to once again see and meet with so many of our industry friends, who conveniently for us were all gathered together briefly in one place.
The most important part of our attendance at the symposium was Sarah’s participation as a panelist in a session on the event’s second day. The panel was entitled “Shifting Ground: D&O in a Changing World,” and included panel moderator Timothy Braun of Axis and panelist Diana Roman Shaw of the Wiley Rein law firm. Sarah would like to thank PLUS and the PLUS Symposium Chairs for inviting her to be a part of this panel.

The sessions at this event are always great, but the best part of the conference is being able to meet with so many industry professionals, including both old friends and new friends as well.

Following the conclusion of the PLUS D&O Symposium, on Wednesday evening, Sarah was a guest lecturer for Columbia University’s Sports Law class. Her presentation, part of Columbia’s M.S. in Sports Management program, focused on the professional liability risks arising from the rapidly changing landscape of Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) in collegiate athletics.
Sarah would like to thank Carla Varriale-Barker, partner at Segel McCambridge, and Courtney Dunn, counsel of litigation and risk at Lyft, for continuing to invite her to speak on the professional liability risks that universities and their athletic departments are facing post-House settlement with the program’s impressive cohort.

On Thursday following the close of the PLUS D&O Symposium, Kevin participated as a speaker at an event sponsored by the Hudson Insurance Federation of New Jersey (HIFNJ). The event, entitled “Hot Topics in D&O Insurance,” was held at the offices of Genova Burns law firm, in Jersey City. The panel, which included Will Seifert of Arch Insurance Group and Sujal Vaidya of Alliant Americas, was moderated by Pete McKeegan of Tara Hill Insurance Services. It was a successful and enjoyable event. Kevin would like to thank the HIFNJ and Pete McKeegan for inviting him to participate, and Jim Burns and his Genova Burns colleagues for hosting the event. It was a great way to end the week in the New York area.
