The D&O Diary ended its Asia Pacific itinerary with a final stop in the prosperous city state of Singapore. The primary purposes of my visit were to speak at the PLUS Singapore Professional Liability Symposium and to attend one very important dinner. My stop in Singapore was brief and I had only a short opportunity to look around the city. I did have a chance to see some of the city’s more famous sights, as reflected in the pictures below.

The D&O Diary’s Asia Pacific itinerary continued this week with a stop in India’s largest city and financial capital, Mumbai. My primary reason for traveling to Mumbai was to participate in a professional liability insurance program co-sponsored by PLUS and the local Indian professional liability insurance organization, Bima Gyaan. Despite the travel distances involved and the time required, my visit to India was relatively brief. My opportunities to explore Mumbai were limited. I had just enough touring time to be reminded what an amazing place Mumbai is.

The D&O Diary is on assignment in the Asia Pacific region this week, with a first stop on the itinerary in Sydney, Australia. The primary purpose of my visit was to attend the annual conference of the Australia Professional Indemnity Group (APIG), but I did have a little time before and after the conference to roam around Sydney a bit. Though my visit coincided with the last days of the Southern hemisphere winter, the weather was cooperative enough to allow for some very enjoyable sightseeing and hiking.

The D&O Diary’s European itinerary continued with a last stop over the Memorial Day weekend in Dubrovnik, Croatia’s famous Adriatic port city. We added a fascinating day trip to Mostar, in Bosnia-Herzegovina. People have been telling me basically my whole life that I needed to visit Dubrovnik. Turns out, they were right. Despite the crowds from the cruise ships in the city’s narrow streets, Dubrovnik is my new favorite place. It also may be the most photogenic city in the world.

Ljubljana may not be familiar to many readers, so here’s what you need to know about the place: Ljubljana is an absolute gem – compact and beautiful. Ljubljana has a great vibe, great wine, and interesting architecture. Ljubljana, my friends, is a seriously cool place.

The D&O Diary’s Eastern European sojourn continued earlier this week with a very brief stop in Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia, which is about a two-hour train ride from Budapest. With a population of only about 450,000, Bratislava is small, but it has a rich history and interesting setting on the Danube, only about 30 miles downstream from Vienna.

The D&O Diary is on assignment in Eastern Europe this week, with multiple destinations on the itinerary, starting with a weekend stop in Hungary’s capital city of Budapest. With a city population of 1.7 million and an urban population over 3 million, Budapest is a large, sprawling place. The taxi ride from the airport into the central city cuts through some pretty scruffy parts of town, so it was startling to arrive at the river and encounter the Danube’s sweeping beauty as it rolled through the city’s central district.

The final stop on The D&O Diary’s European assignment last week was a brief sojourn in Madrid, Spain’s capital city. More than 3 million people live in the sprawling city, but the city’s elegant central district is quite compact. Under any conditions, the city’s many boulevards and neighborhoods invite exploration on foot. But with the summer-like sunshine and warmth that prevailed throughout our visit, we were happy to ramble around the city, taking in the sights and enjoying the city’s many charms.

The D&O Diary’s European assignment continued last week with a stopover in Lisbon, Portugal’s hilly capital city, known to the locals as Lisboa. It is located on the north side of the Rio Tejo (known as the Tagus River in English). The city itself has about 550,000 residents, but the city’s sprawling metropolitan area has about 2.7 million residents. Lisbon may not have the allure of some other European capitals, but it has an abundance of history and charm; a diversity of interesting neighborhoods to explore; and an abundance of great food, as reflected in the pictures below.

The D&O Diary is on assignment in Europe this week, with a first stop for meetings and events in London. In between, l had time for some touring around the city. I have visited London many times before, but just the same, I made a commitment to myself that I wouldn’t do anything that I have done before. As the pictures below show, I was largely successful.
